Ignore twnpxl, it works.

WORKS. I updated from 2.0 and had no issues. Backups are much faster now and Apple's added the "genius" feature to playlists.

How do you install the update? I expanded the .ipsw file and get a folder with 2 .dmg, firware folder, kernelcache, restore.plist

Well, didn't work for me. tried updating from 1.5. Got an error.

@twnpxl: You'll have to update your ipod to 2.0 first, then you can update it to 2.1

well, i'm in 2.0 (downloaded on piratebay) but i can't update it in 2.1.
when i click 'check for update' it says that 2.-0 is the current version and when i Shift+click restore it doesnt work.

What should i do please?

it worked perfect. i was on 1.5. ipluged my itouch in and held the shift down and clicked uprade and got an error then i held the shift and clicked restore and directed it to the 2.1. it took about 4 min to complete. thanks again it worked great.

to install this firmware.

1. make sure you have the latest version of itunes 8. Older versions won't work. Also make sure you currently have firmware version 2.0 on your ipod. If not click "check for update" in itunes ipod tab to download it.

2. make sure you sync your ipod before going further to be sure everything is backed up.

3. in Windows: shift+click restore on the ipod tab when the ipod is connected. For Mac: i think it is Option+click to do this.

4. a window should open allowing you to navigate to this restore file. select the file.

5. wait for your ipod to be updated (it can take a while)

6. sync your ipod again to get all your stuff back on it

Here's to praying! I'm in the process of updating the firmware using this download now on my iPod Touch. I'm upgrading from 1.1.5....yeah....we're talking old school! I'll report back on it's success or failure when I'm done.
